Careers with Horses

Most people in the horse world start with practical stable work and for many this remains an aspect of their work over the years. Because care of the horse is fundamental to the industry it is important that newcomers should learn to do this to a high standard, efficiently and effectively. Hours are often very long at certain times in the equestrian world and dedication and commitment to the horse are vital to a successful career.

Riding is a fundamental skill for horse people. However many horse careers do not require riding skills. For example, stud work or looking after young horses may not involve much riding, but then other skills such as handling techniques, breaking in and foaling need to be developed.

Careers progress in the horse world practically, for example, National Diploma to Degree. However, regardless of the level of job - practical experience is important. At the College you will learn and develop these skills which will help become a manager. Such skills will be useful whether you decide to enter the horse industry directly of go into some of the ancillary business such as sales, advisory, technical or consultancy. Many of these jobs are well suites to HND students.
